Utility activations
and deactivations.

Service changes for acquisitions, vacant units and properties, move-ins, and dispositions. We coordinate providers, pay activation deposits on your behalf, and follow final billing and returned deposits through account closeout.

Utility activations

We place required utility services into the approved owner or management entity's name, coordinate the effective date, pay required activation deposits on your behalf, and follow the request through completion.

Acquisition activations

For properties entering a portfolio, SkillSource coordinates service under the approved ownership or management entity at the required date. We identify providers, submit starts, follow provider requirements, and record the resulting account information.

Turn / vacant activations

When possible, we initiate activation requests three weeks before scheduled move-outs, with service set to begin on the approved transition date. We track schedule changes, update providers, and resolve exceptions to keep activation timely and the transition seamless.

Activation deposits

When a provider requires a deposit before starting service, SkillSource pays the deposit on your behalf through the approved payment process. We confirm the amount and due date and track payment against the property and activation.

Make-ready and renovation

Properties under repair may require active electric, gas, water, or other service. We align each request to the approved work period and property schedule.

New development and lease-up

Phased deliveries and lease-up create repeated activation events across multifamily communities and build-to-rent developments. SkillSource coordinates requests as units and properties become ready for service.

Portfolio onboarding

When ownership or management changes across many homes, SkillSource organizes activation requests around approved effective dates, provider groups, and entity structure.

Reconnects and restoration

When service has been interrupted and restoration is authorized, SkillSource coordinates the provider-side reconnect process and tracks outstanding requirements through resolution.

Temporary service

For construction, inspection, or transition periods, we activate approved services for a defined operating window and preserve the account and deposit details needed for closeout.

Utility deactivations

We close or transfer owner-side utility accounts at the approved property event, work date changes and exceptions, and follow available final bills and returned deposits through closeout.

Resident move-in deactivations

When utility responsibility moves to the resident, SkillSource coordinates the approved stop or transfer of owner-side service based on the move-in date and client process. Where applicable, we contact tenants to confirm they have set up utilities and verify their utility account details, following up on missing confirmation.

Disposition deactivations

When a property is sold, SkillSource coordinates account closure or transfer around the approved closing date and maintains available confirmation records.

Management transfers

When management responsibility changes, SkillSource handles the outgoing utility actions required to remove the prior management entity from applicable accounts.

Date changes and cancellations

Move-ins and closings change. Previously submitted requests may need to be amended or canceled before taking effect. SkillSource works those changes directly with providers.

Temporary-service closeouts

Accounts opened for construction, renovation, inspection, or another short-term operating need can be closed once the approved period ends.

Incorrect or duplicate accounts

If an owner-side account remains active after it should have closed, or overlapping responsibility is identified, SkillSource works with the provider on the required corrective action.

Final billing and deposit returns

SkillSource tracks available final-bill details and returned deposits through account closeout, keeping amounts, status, and open provider follow-up connected to the property.

Final confirmation

Available closure status, effective dates, final account information, returned-deposit status, and provider confirmation details are recorded with the service event.

Lower service costs. More included.

Lower activation and deactivation fees are only part of the value. SkillSource includes the follow-up, account checks, and closeout work needed to complete each service change. Compare both the price and the scope with your current provider.
